E 210 Street Classifications
Los Angeles streets are categorized into different Street Classifications according to their function in the larger street system and intended use. The Mobility Plan 2035 (the Mobility Element of the General Plan) establishes the streets that designated as Arterial Streets, Divided Streets, Modified Segments, and Scenic Highways. Community Plans (the Land Use Element of the General Plan) establish the streets that are designated as Collector Streets and identify proposed streets. The City Engineer or through other City Planning efforts outside the General Plan the City may choose to categorize a street or public right-of-way according to their specialized function or intended use, including Local Streets, Shared Streets, and Walk Streets. The ultimate widths of a street and public right-of-way are determined in accordance with its classification.
Additionally, the City’s Mobility Plan 2035 identifies Mobility Plan 2035 Network Concepts to emphasize modal priorities on specific streets. The Network Concepts (also referred to as Enhanced Networks or simply Networks) are not part of a street’s official designation. Requirements and recommendations for transportation facilities and other street design elements are determined in accordance with a street’s identified Network or Networks.
