The City of Los Angeles Street Design Manual (Manual) covers the design of streets. This site presents the design criteria, standards, policies, and procedures for engineers and environmental design professionals to reference for street design.
Message for Site Users
This site furnishes a digital version of the existing City of Los Angeles Street Design Manual (Manual), last published in whole in July 1986. Where direct equivalents for historical information contained in the Manual are available, replaced text is indicated using "superseded" in the title. This is a "living" document which is being managed and updated in various phases with new and improved information.
Our Commitment: The City of Los Angeles is committed to ensuring digital accessibility for all users, including those with disabilities. We strive to improve people’s experience of information available online by following the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 Level AA.
Limitations and Ongoing Efforts: The Bureau of Engineering (BOE) and the City bureaus and departments responsible for the planning, operations, and maintenance of streets and public rights-of-way and delivery of critical services within the City have recognized the need to revise the information contained in this Manual to align with current City policies and procedures. Currently, an interdepartmental committee is identifying, considering, and/or preparing more substantial revisions or changes to information contained and accessed on this site and, once approved, these may be published on this site periodically.
Some archival materials, such as handwritten documents or complex historical data tables, may present accessibility challenges. We are actively working to:
- Enhance navigation and labeling for archival data tables.
- Improve text alternatives or replacements for historical images.
- Provide new transcriptions to improve or replace handwritten and scanned documents.
