E 561 Need For Remodeling Streets

Revised on 10-04-2024

The need for remodeling previously paved streets by resurfacing or reconstruction is indicated by one or more of the following conditions:

  1. The existing pavement has deteriorated.
  2. Rails in abandoned railroad rights of way must be covered.
  3. The crown of the street is too high for the safe and efficient movement of traffic.
  4. The street is included in an overall major project such as freeway construction, grade separation, or drainage projects that require grade changes, etc.

E 561.1 Benefits Resulting from Remodeled Streets

From the types of improvements listed in Section E 561, the resulting benefits may be:

  1. Elimination of cross-gutters and pavement dips at intersections, and provision of smoother riding surfaces.
  2. Reduction of excessively high curb faces.
  3. Increase of curb return radii.
  4. The making of minor pavement grade changes and elimination of local depressions (such as water pockets in flat crown sections and flow lines), and in general improving transverse and longitudinal drainage conditions.
  5. A change in existing pavement grades to improve the meeting of existing improvements.
